Polishing removes damage that has not gone through the clear coat and paint.
Brush and sponge washing and other wrong washing techniques can scratch the surface. At an automatic car wash you never know how clean or dirty the brushes are, and a sponge drags all kinds of dirt across the surface as it moves. In snowy conditions, over-eager use of a snow brush also causes many scratches, because there is always dust and sand under the snow that the brush drags across the surface.
Polishing removes a very thin layer of clear coat. That is unavoidable, because that is exactly how a scratch disappears. Before polishing, the clear coat must always be measured so the right combination of pad and compound can be chosen.
We strongly recommend it. Otherwise the job is only half done. The treatment helps keep the paint the way it is after polishing.
