New car

A new car deserves protection before its first autumn

Stone chips do not wait. The first few weeks decide whether your car looks new or three years old in three years' time — and how much of that is left in the resale price.

Why now

Three reasons not to wait

The same film that is specified at the factory. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Range Rover offer XPEL paint protection film from the factory. At the factory it is usually only the front end, and it is done as series work — we cover more and deal with every detail individually. What matters is that the world's most demanding manufacturers trust the same material on their new cars.

  • The damage cannot be undone

A stone chip goes through the paint in a second. Film only protects what is still intact — an existing chip has to be repaired first, and that costs more than the protection would have.

  • New paint is the perfect base

Paint straight from the factory has no wash marks or swirls. That means no polishing is needed and the film or coating can go straight on — faster and cheaper than a year later.

  • Residual value

At the point of sale the bonnet and front bumper are the first things anyone looks at. The exterior condition of a protected car is a selling point a buyer pays for — and the film can be removed before the sale, leaving untouched paint underneath.

The right order

What order the work happens in

The order is not a matter of taste. Get it wrong and part of the work has to be redone later.

  1. 01

    Inspection

We inspect the paint under lights. A new car often has transport damage or factory finish defects that go unnoticed at the dealer.

  2. 02

    Preparation

A detailed wash and decontamination. A particle left under the film stays there for years — this stage cannot be rushed.

  3. 03

    Polishing, if needed

Most new cars do not need it. If one does, a light gloss enhancement is enough — there is no reason to thin new paint unnecessarily.

  4. 04

    Paint protection film

About 90% of the cutting is done by plotter from XPEL's DAP software patterns, so most pieces reach the car already cut. Where a cut has to be made on the car, an experienced fitter does it with full concentration. We start with the surfaces that take the most punishment: bonnet, front bumper, front wings, mirrors.

  5. 05

    Ceramic protection

It goes on top of the film, not instead of it. It keeps the surface clean and makes washing easier on both filmed and unfilmed areas.

What paint protection film actually looks like

The film is optically clear and invisible once fitted — easier to show than to describe. In two minutes we go through what XPEL paint protection film is, how it goes onto the paint and what it protects against.

Frequently asked questions

Questions from new car owners

Usually not. On a new car the paint is clean and unmarked, so the film goes straight on. We still inspect the surface under lights — transport damage and factory finish defects turn up even on zero-mileage cars.

The sooner the better — ideally before the first longer motorway drive. Stone chips happen on the open road, and film cannot undo them after the fact.

We cut the film so that the edge hides behind the panel wherever possible. Where it is not possible, the edge is thin and unnoticeable from a metre away.

No. Paint protection film is reversible — it comes off without damaging the original paint. If the lessor wants the car returned in original condition, we remove the film.

That pleasant new-car smell is in fact particles off-gassing from PVC, plastics and synthetic fibres. For a sensitive person it can be genuinely irritating once the car warms up. We recommend airing a new car often for at least six months, or having the interior ozone-treated — that removes the particles from places ventilation does not reach.

A ceramic coating protects against chemicals, UV and dirt, but not against stone chips — it is a couple of microns thick. Only film gives physical protection. Most customers choose both: film on the front, ceramic over the whole car.
